Jakarta, September 15, 2026 - The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia has officially announced the final results of the Sandbox Kesehatan (Health Sandbox) 2025-2026. The announcement marks the completion of all testing, mentoring, and development activities for health technology innovations, which were previously scheduled to run until August 2026.

Of the 30 Health Technology Innovations (ITK) participating in the program, 21 successfully completed all testing stages and met the established criteria. These innovations have subsequently been recommended to receive a ITK Number from Ministry of Health, recognizing that they have undergone an evaluation process covering various aspects of accessibility, quality, protection, and benefits for the public.

The evaluation of participants was conducted through three main testing schemes: the Innovation Development Scheme (Innovation Sandbox), the Innovation Utilization Expansion Scheme (Industrial Sandbox), and the Innovation-Based Policy Development Scheme (Regulatory Sandbox). These three schemes are designed to ensure that innovations can be developed and utilized responsibly, taking into account both their benefits and potential risks.

Head of the Center for Data and Information Technology at Ministry of Health of Indonesia, Eko Sulistijo, emphasized that the implementation of Sandbox Kesehatan is part of the government's efforts to ensure that the development of health technology innovations progresses in line with considerations of safety, quality, and public protection.

“We want to ensure that the innovations developed are truly ready to deliver tangible benefits to the public, with risks properly managed,” Eko emphasized.

According to Eko, the Sandbox Kesehatan process serves not only as a platform for testing technological readiness but also as a learning opportunity for the government and innovation developers. Through testing and mentoring, various findings from the field can provide valuable input for improving innovations while strengthening policies that support their utilization.

“Sandbox Kesehatan provides innovators with a structured environment to test and refine their innovations, while also offering the government valuable insights into the regulatory needs of continuously evolving health technologies,” Eko said.

He added that the successful completion of all Sandbox Kesehatan stages by 21 innovations demonstrates the continued growth of health technology innovation in Indonesia and its potential to deliver added value to the public.

“We hope that the outcomes of this process will not end with the issuance of a ITK Number, but will serve as a catalyst for innovators to continuously improve quality, expand benefits, and ensure the sustainability of their innovations,” Eko continued.

The successful completion of the program by 21 innovations is expected to serve as an indicator of their readiness for further development and broader utilization. It is also expected to encourage the delivery of healthcare services that are increasingly safe, high-quality, and responsive to public needs.

Meanwhile, innovations that have not yet received a ITK Number during this period will still have the opportunity to participate in Sandbox Kesehatan again. Participants may reapply when the program opens for its next period.

The ITK Numbers assigned to the innovations that successfully passed the program have also been published and are accessible through sandbox.kemkes.go.id. This publication is part of Ministry of Health's efforts to enhance the value of health technology innovations while providing the public and stakeholders with access to the results of the Sandbox Kesehatan Program.

Following the completion of the testing activities for participants in the Sandbox Kesehatan Program 2025-2026, Ministry of Health will also continue developing policy recommendations as one of the key outputs of the Regulatory Sandbox.

“These recommendations are developed based on an assessment of the gaps between the risks and benefits of innovations, taking into account various findings and lessons learned throughout the testing process,” Eko explained.

The policy recommendations are scheduled for publication in October 2026 and are expected to serve as input for the development of policies that support the safe, responsible, and sustainable utilization of health technology innovations.
