Jakarta, October 27, 2026 – The Ministry of Health (MoH) of the Republic of Indonesia is promoting the development of safe, high-quality, and inclusive health technology innovations by strengthening the Sandbox Kesehatan program. This controlled environment for testing provides innovators with a platform to develop and test health technology solutions before they are implemented more widely. This was one of the key focuses of the Health Innovation Showcase 2026, held on Tuesday (27/10).

Indonesia’s Vice Minister of Health, Prof. Dante Saksono Harbuwono, said that digital health transformation is not merely about converting manual records into digital formats, but also about improving the quality, efficiency, and accessibility of healthcare services for the public.

“Digital transformation is not simply about turning paper into screens. What matters more is how technology can improve the quality of healthcare services experienced by the public,” said Prof. Dante.

As part of this transformation, the SATUSEHAT Platform is now connected to more than 43,000 healthcare facilities across Indonesia, including nearly all hospitals and more than 90 percent of community health centers (puskesmas). Through SATUSEHAT Electronic Medical Records (SATUSEHAT RME), patients’ medical histories can be managed continuously and accessed across healthcare facilities in accordance with applicable regulations and patient consent.

MoH Indonesia continues to strengthen the Sandbox Kesehatan as a platform for supporting innovators and conducting regulatory trials. Between 2023 and 2025, a total of 60 health innovations passed the verification process, 39 of which received official Health Technology Innovation Registration Certificates. Applications for the next cycle are scheduled to open in late 2026.

“Through the Sandbox Kesehatan, innovators can test their solutions in a controlled environment with guidance from the government and experts. I urge innovators to continue prioritizing quality, safety, and patient data protection. Ultimately, the success of an innovation is determined by the tangible benefits it delivers to the public,” said Prof. Dante.

At the Health Innovation Showcase 2026, 11 selected innovators presented their health technology solutions, which were assessed based on implementation readiness, public acceptance, and potential integration with SATUSEHAT. The use of artificial intelligence (AI) emerged as a prominent trend, including applications to support genetic testing and automatically convert clinical conversations into medical record summaries.

Despite the opportunities it offers, Prof. Dante emphasized that AI must remain a tool to support healthcare professionals rather than replace physicians’ clinical judgment. Cross-sector collaboration is also essential to ensure that innovations address healthcare needs and can be implemented sustainably.

“Artificial intelligence must serve as a partner that supports healthcare professionals, not replace their clinical judgment. Cross-sector collaboration is key to ensuring that innovations do not stop at the testing stage but can be put to practical use in healthcare delivery,” he said.

Vice Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Nezar Patria underscored the importance of a digital ecosystem that supports innovation, from data governance to startup mentoring and access to investment. He commended the innovators for developing digital solutions to address Indonesia’s national health challenges.

“The 11 selected innovators today represent an initial step toward achieving inclusive and competitive health technology sovereignty in Indonesia. Innovation needs a supportive ecosystem to grow and deliver broader benefits,” said Nezar.

Cynthia Krisanti, Executive Director of Pijar Foundation, said that collaboration between Pijar Foundation, MoH Indonesia, and other stakeholders continues to be strengthened to address national health challenges, including tuberculosis, diabetes, and population aging, through technology under the Innovation Sandbox program.

“With the support of a sustainable ecosystem, technological innovation is expected to expand access to healthcare services while improving early detection for communities across Indonesia,” said Cynthia.
